Windows XP End-of-Life Notification

As you may have heard, Windows XP is going to reach end-of-life (EOL) on April 8, 2014. This means that Microsoft will no longer support, upgrade, nor patch Windows XP products. Running a non-supported OS instance is disallowed from a policy perspective, and very risky from a security perspective.

CITES Security continues to work proactively with the campus community in preparation for this important deadline. We'd like to take this opportunity to express that while CITES’ recommends upgrading, replacing, or retiring any Windows XP systems that you have, we do recognize that there are a few Windows XP systems that perform critical functions, and for very good reasons cannot be upgraded, replaced, or retired. For such systems, we can help decide how to mitigate its exposure to malware.
